At the February MTI meeting, Dr. Jim Keiser from Oak Ridge gave a structured forum on the development of a new class of Alumina forming austenitic stainless steels for high-temperature structural use.
During the discussion following the presentation, the issue of fabrication and welding of the alloys was raised. In the July issue of JOM (JOM pages 12-17), Oak Ridge reported that the alloys discussed are amenable to welding.
A review article of these alloys can be found in Stainless Steel World Magazine, pages 23-29, March 2008.
