As an MTI member, I am kept up to date on the current state of materials and corrosion engineering technology as used in the process industry.

Embedded Sensors & Polymers

The MTI roadmap identified sensors as a crosscutting theme. Smart materials- materials able to sense and possessing signaling capability - were also identified as a need. A New Materials PDC-Project Development Committee was formed to identify new materials for the chemical process industry. Both polymers and sensors were included in that search. The new materials PDC created three sub-groups: polymers, metals and ceramics. The polymers group focused on embedded sensors and polymers as an area to explore new technology for implementation in the chemical process industry. This search includes technical literature and patent searches, identification and evaluation of emerging commercial sensors and assessing technology from national laboratories. The goal is to identify a project centered on embedded sensors and polymers of interest and value to MTI members. A team of interested MTI members are actively searching for a project of interest.
