MTI’s greatest strength is the background diversity of the members. In most cases someone can be found in the membership who has knowledge about a question that any member might ask.

Value of Membership
Case Study #1 — DuPont Company

Case Study #1 | Case Study #2 | Case Study #3 | Case Study #4 | Case Study #5

It should be the goal of each MTI member representative to help develop and bring home projects that improve their company's manufacturing efficiency, safety, and technical capability. For example, the DuPont Company makes successful use of its MTI membership by demanding a minimum return of five times its membership fee plus participation costs.

Here are examples of recent and on going MTI projects that help DuPont achieve its return on MTI investment…

Fiberglass Equipment Self Help Guide

This recent product is a tool to help plant inspectors can make informed decisions on equipment serviceability. Fiberglass is widely used for environmental systems and handling of corrosive chemicals. The key feature of the Guide is a comprehensive series of illustrations with appropriate annotations — the only one of its kind.

Heat Exchanger Integrity in Cooling Waters

Heat exchangers are one of the most troublesome units in a manufacturing facility. Solutions to problems often require input from various disciplines, ranging from the equipment design to the water treatment. To help resolve problems, a large, ongoing MTI project has been created whose scope is multi-disciplinary collaboration. It will provide the tools to apply the balance of technical inputs to service problem units.

Leak-free Flange Make Up

OSHA 1910.119 regulations on process safety management mandate qualification of site personnel in activities that may lead to accidental releases or safety incidents. One of the major challenges at any plant is to "keep the product inside the pipes." MTI member companies scoped an important project in this area. It will lead to development of a simple tool that plant and other training organizations may use to qualify mechanics who make up leak-free flanges on critical piping equipment.
